Welcome/Haere Mai

Bishopdale Community Preschool was established by the community within the Bishopdale Mall complex over 30 years ago.  We operate as a registered society that is not-for-profit; this allows us to put any surplus funds back into the development of the centre.

We have a management committee of volunteer parents that together with the teaching team and the centre manager work to continually improve the service we provide to the community.

We lease our premises from the Christchurch City Council and they support our service with a rental subsidy grant.  We are also funded by the Ministry of Education, WINZ , and through parent fees.

Our Aspiration

It is our aspiration to provide a service that supports children and their families so that they may grow up as confident and competent learners, ready and able to explore their world with courage and curiosity.  We believe that it takes a community to achieve this, learning together, sharing values, beliefs, and knowledge.

We welcome you to join our community of learners and participate in helping young children make connections with the people, places and things in their world.

Earthquake Followup Protocol

As the aftershocks have continued to shake our city the Christchurch City Council have altered the protocol of when and how they check their buildings.  We occupy a Council building, therefore we have been instructed to follow this new protocol. The new Protocol applys to significant aftershocks of a magnitude 5 and over and is:

If there is a significant Earthquake the facilitiy may need to be closed until an inspection has been completed by Chirstchurch City Countcil Staff and or a structural engineer. The number one priority is making sure your building is able to be reoccupied.

This new protocol means that we may have to let you know at short notice that we have had to close for an inspection.  Please wait till we contact you about any closures and do not assume that if we have had an earthquake over 5 that we will automatically be closing the centre. If we close we will let you know by phone.

We hope this helps in understanding the process around any future centre closure. Our building has continued to remain very strong throughout all the earthquakes and we are confident that it will continue to do so. If you have any questions please talk with one of our team.
